You're An Adult Now

I've always felt like a child.
My parents (as parents should) have always treated me as such.
So I just assumed I'd always be one.

But I guess we really do age, and the world does turn grey.
I've stopped asking for permission.
The world stopped caring.

As children, we picture the adult world as something liberating.
When our parents tell us no, we menacing say:
"Yeah, well when I'm an adult I'm going to..."

But it's simply not as glamorous as I expected.
Of course there is more freedom.
But it's freedom to do all the destructive and harmful and stressful things that my parents had been protecting me from.

I wish I had known.
Being and adult is a lot more than just doing what you want.
