Youth

An island built on dreams and fear

Sits far beyond the greater shore

Where hope is found yet still is scarce

Among the boring, plain décor

The stretch between, a strait of change

Defies those who will dare to try

To find the means to land unscathed

Upon the ground where they will die

We all must make an effort once

To brave the waters deep and wide

It’s natural and must be done

Just as the groom must kiss his bride

I find myself between the two

Behind me, dreams; in front, the goal

Though not just strength will see me through

I must pay innocence as toll.
