Youth of the Nation

I fight for my life,

But I can’t seem to hide

Who I am from this world

Or who I am inside.

They play me

And change me

And cast me aside,

Like I’m no one,

Not worthy

Of their heedless minds.

I can’t breathe,

I’m choking,

I’m drowning in their lies.

I can’t stay,

I can’t change,

I can’t be enough in their eyes.

I have no one,

Nothing,

That isn’t on their side.

I’m alone in this world

And I can’t seem to rise

From this hole,

From this pit,

From this cavity of demise.

I need a hand,

I need a hold,

I need a light to shine

On this forsaken frame

That I call my life.

I wan’t hope,

I want to gaze

On what I will find

If I stay strong,

If I stay strapping,

In this ongoing fight.

Will I ever gaze

On the beautiful future

That I hold in my sights?

Through the fog

I will stumble,

And the ground will strike,

But I will triumph,

I will succeed,

For it is what's right.

I am strong,

I am powerful,

I will reach beyond the strife.

I might not change the world,

And I may not change your life,

But I am a youth of the nation,

And I just might.

I have always had a love for writing and specifically poetry. I write my content to express my feelings and emotions at that moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm a small girl from Oklahoma, but my heart sores with the power that poetry gives me.
