Zeus- What a Jerk!

He sits in bars night after night

Looking for his next love.

Silver beard, long and light,

Reveals he's from above.

Yet no true king is this newcomer

But his prey is none the wiser

This old freak, name of Jupiter,

Is pretty much just a womanizer

For millenia, he sits and waits

For millenia, he sits and waits.

Children abandoned around the globe.

Nowhere to call home.

Olympus is no throne for this cruel king.

Instead the streets, where he abandons his ring.

Calls a cab from petty mortals.

Holds back his thunderous chortle

Heads down to where the woman are

Gets out tall of the puny car.

Bar after bar, all across the lands

Losing count of his one-night stands.

Only in the night does he lurk.

Zeus- what a jerk!

I always loved reading Greek myths, but the one thing that made them uncomftorable was Zeus. This poem is an attempt to capture the cruel, lustful nature of Zeus thousands of years after the Greek Empire has fallen. It shows him as a cruel predator, just as he was in the myths.
