Zombie Apocalypse

Has the apocalypse come?

There are zombies everywhere.

Heads down, shuffling, unsmiling,

eyes glossy, oblivious, lifeless.

The only sign of life

Are their fingers moving across the screens

and the slight movement of their feet.

Everything seemed gray.

They move in packs

because none of them

can break free

but I did.

Pictures weren’t enough anymore,

messages couldn’t hold my attention.

Statuses meant nothing,

who cares about what you ate today?

So I looked up one day

and saw everything.

The sun, the clouds, the grass.

The animals, the people, life.

And it was beautiful.

They saw me, and they knew

I’ve escaped the world of media,

of things that didn’t matter.

I’ve become a human again.
