¿Mom?

The sound of a keyboard is all too familiar in my household
Everyday and everynight all you hear is the unstoppable sound

Why can’t it stop?
Why can't  the sound take a break?
Because we have bills to pay
People to feed
Things to do
I ask this question over and over again
Why can’t you just take a minute off to spend time with me?
But I know the answer before it responds
The same old answer, every time
That has taken most of my childhood
Because we have bills to pay
People to feed
And Things to do
All I wanted was a connection with my mother
But the sound of the keyboard has replaced the advice she could give me
Straying from
What should I wear today?
To
How do I talk to a boy?
This familiar sound has taken  most of my childhood
That will always be with me
To give me a reminder to cherish the little things
No matter how small

Why can’t the sound take a break?
Because we have bills to pay
People to feed
And Things to do
This familiar sound has taken most of my childhood
But I wouldn’t change it for the world
Because it has changed my perspective on life
To cherish the little things
