“A City of Ashes, of Embers”

A city of ashes, of embers
Fire thought to be destructive and end
Instead cleanses and creates a new beginning.
The fire rips away the city’s core, the very legs on which it stands.
A city gutted, wonders how it will survive.
Without a leg to stand on, without a crutch, how do you rebuild, move on?
Glowing embers coat the ground and a cloud of smoke fills the air
Smothering every hope and dream that filled the old city.
Dying dreams, dying memories, the past, present, and future all killed at once-
But with this death and destruction comes a new life, a hope.
In order to move on and better the city you must first start a new.
The fire in truth did not kill the city, it gave her a chance to grow.
By cutting down the core it forced true faith, perseverance, and hope to surface.
Discord gives way to harmony and a book turns its page to a new chapter.
With these things in mind the city no longer looks of ash, burning embers, and smoke.
Instead the city shows a bright horizon, a sky that glows and sparkles.
The grass now greener and healthier than ever before,
The air somehow cleaner –
Birds flit and flutter through the sky chirping a merry new tune.
A new city is built on top of the old.
As a stairway to a door,
From the ashes of old dreams and desires come new ones
Even better ones than before.
From here the city continues to grow
Ever changing, ever adapting, never giving up.
She shakes off the dust of the past and pushes forward.
