“For the Love of the Game”

From the first time you played, You knew you would never quit You flat love everything about it. From the clean cut grass To the soft dirt that sticks to your cleats To the fans that sit in anticipation Watching the boys fight for their school or team. You play to win. To see the scoreboard at the end of the game, with you ahead You love to mark that “W” on your schedule And feel that tingle you get when you get ready for the next game When you lace up your cleats and hit that diamond You know it’s all or nothing. You live for the moment when it’s your turn to hit It’s the bottom of the 9th. And there are two outs Fans in the crowd yell encouragement as your team mate is standing on 3rd As the sweat drips down your face You look the pitcher in the eyes. The state championship is on the line And that’s when you know that you live for the moment. From the first time you played Til the last time you prayed You know that you simply play for the love of the game.
