“Ripened Wine”
Sweetness as it coats your lips
Bitterness as it glides down your throat.
Aged to perfection waiting
For that perfect moment in time
When love goes awry.
Alas! Why must the resentment of two hearts-
Be embodied in spheres of melancholy?
The decanter stares directly at his soul with animosity
In its eyes.
It is a ruthless glare that modulates between the pit
And the pendulum.
The pendulum as it pivots to and fro,
Creates volatile imbalances within the depths of the soul
As he contemplates whether or not to reach for the bottle.
Misery loves company or so they say but,
His heart is torn between the memory of an old flame and solace from liquor
He chooses the latter.
He desires to drown himself in glasses of Chardonnay
As he contemplates the copious dimensions of a rose
Sifting through the remnants of faded love that have melted into the days of yore,
He is now in a steady love affair with Chardonnay, Daniels, and Merlot
These are his current concubines.
He wonders to himself,
Will I ever find the lover of my dreams?
The wick of desire never wavers until it is squelched
By the waters of dependency
