“What if’s”
I’m struggling with it again./
I’m scared of my own demons /
Ones that hold me back /
With their dagger claws/
That whenever I try to pull away/
I get scratched./
Left with burning, aching wounds./
Ones that make me question why I try /
If I’m just gonna get hurt /
By my own damned thorns./
It keeps me from diving into him/
For fear of opening myself up to him /
Completely. utterly. entirely./
For fear that if he sees my true colors/
He won’t like the display /
But why should I care?/
There will always be critics/
Always be observers/
Always be admirers./
So many in a sea of people/
I just have to sift through. /
Or maybe they’ll find me?/
Who knows how these things play out./
But the one above;/
I tend to forget I’m not in full control/
That my fears are only /
A figment of my imagination./
