Learning to Fail

January 21, 2017

I wanted a thing

Anything

So in my life I only had one thing

I was the nerd

The kid with the answers

Ask a questions and he’ll get it

Smartest kid in the class

Sharpest tool in the shed

Math, Science, History, English

Please

Can I have a challenge?

Can anyone look me in the eyes without flinching

You might have been the smartest where you came from

But no more

I could smirk as I left another in defeat

Always find a way to demonstrate my superiority

Until I couldn’t

Until I wasn’t the smartest anymore

Until I was always being challenged

Until I had to work

In math, science, history and english

Until I was just too slow

Just couldn’t understand

Just one move behind

Just a little bit too stupid

Just a little bit too dumb

Just a little bit too unaware

broken

A year of failures

Filled with pains and loses

Day after day of fearing the next failure

Breaking me down

Piece by piece

Then I remembered why I started to learn

Learning not to be the best but to be know

To know why the world works

How to understand everything around us

Learning not to get into the best college

But because knowledge is divine

I no longer need to see tests as obstacles

But as steps in a dance
