Don't Fall Asleep

October 19, 2018

3.34 am

A 4th mug of coffee packed to the brim with sugar, a single room lit up in the quiet, somber household

Slowly blinking, reading, absorbing, forgetting...

Eliminating all distractions til the world slowly fades away

And all that’s left is the book drowsy eyes gaze upon

That book tells the tale of an entire future, it is the key to success

So don’t fall asleep

Time is running thin,

Eliminate useless things from your system, entertainment, social life,

anything that doesn’t serve a long time purpose is time wasted

Your colleagues and friends become your worst enemies

Whom you must sacrifice for the perfect score

Perfect scores resemble 1s and 0s like the code

slowly being hardwired into human brains, replacing emotions completely

Juggle extra activities, advanced classes and basic human needs

like a deranged, panicked, sleep deprived circus clown

If days fall short, sacrifice nights

Rest will come after this job, the next job, the one after that, and after that…

So, don’t fall asleep

The world measures worth based on 1s and 0s

Drowning students in exams of alphabet soup

Examined over and over

Results recorded, like guinea pigs

performing an experiment of survival and success

Success, determined through a brutal race for #1

Which guinea pig is the most resilient? Who worked the hardest? Who had the most drive?

Who stayed up the longest, who sacrificed the most, who endured the most panic attacks the sleepless nights the endless hours watching mom’s dinner come pouring out because their body was afraid,

because they were afraid

who gave the most of their emotions and sanity in return for information and a perfect score on a sheet of paper.

In return for getting by and not falling to the bottom

For knowing that years of studying to ensure financial security

are payed back with years of therapy to restore mental stability

Only the worthy can

Fall just above disappointment and failure

Are you worthy?

Or will you fall just a bit short

So..again..I urge you, don’t fall asleep
