The Fairest

August 27, 2017

Asleep she lays in a bed of roses.

Lips as red as blood.

Hair as white as snow.

Skin as dark as ebony.

The fairest.

Who is the fairest of them all?

The Queen?

Whose skin is white like porcelain,

whose heart is black like coal.

Snow White?

Whose skin is dark like night,

whose heart is white and pure.

Many say it's the Queen.

Her skin is fair...the fairest.

Is the skin the deciding factor?

The mirror said otherwise.

In a world that makes assumptions

based on skin color,

the mirror saw what mattered.

Heart.
