5 Steps

July 19, 2013

I’m empty.
They were right.

Denial.
I couldn’t believe, nor
Did I wish to believe
They would leave.
But they’re gone.

Anger.
My cheeks became flushed
A crimson red.
I didn’t want to lose them,
But they’re gone.

Fear.
How will I survive?
I felt like hiding.
I created stone walls around me,
Far below the surface of reality –
Never wishing to ascend.
Yet, they’re gone.

Sadness.
Tears filled my bloodshot eyes,
Waiting for the barking of my alarm.
It didn’t – it won’t.
They are gone.

Acceptance.
They – finished with a step in life –
Are bounding on to the future.
But what is future?
Does it not include the past?
They are not gone.
They are becoming their future selves.

They were right.
I’m okay now.
