Don’t give me a look

From the side of your gaze

Unless you can smile at me

With all of your face

Don’t whisper to others

When I am not around

Unless those same words uttered

Can be repeated in my presence

Don’t claim to know me

In a company of two

Unless you see me just as worthy

Among an entire crowd

Don’t weave together baskets

With your silver-tongued thread

But leave the bottoms weak

Because you were using flimsy fibers

For unless your words ring true

And contain no hint of guile

You should not worry about your heart

Falling through the bottom and hitting the floor.
