One Day

February 12, 2014
Beep, beep, beep.
A machine aided heart beat,
The noise forever trapped in my mind.

“I’m sorry ma’am, she’s not making it.”                                                        Beep

I can only hear the voices,
I wish I could respond.
I’m here! I’m okay!
No one can hear my cries.

“Don't say that, she’ll be fine.
my little girl will be fine”                                                                                 Beep

These words, coming only in
a downpour of tears.
Please don't, I'm right here.
Everything will be okay.

“Ma’am, I’m sorry,
you should say your goodbyes...
...I’ll give you a minute.”                                                                                 Beep

I understand what’s happening; I can’t stop it.
The pain in her voice is agonizing.
Mother, please don't cry.
Be strong for me, be strong.

“...Good-goodbye, my sweet girl.
I-I love you.”                                                                                                   Beeeeeeeeeeep

My soul seems engulfed
in a gallery of lights.
I find when I open my eyes
all I’ll see are gates of white,
cities of gold, and the familiar faces.

“I’m sorry ma’am, she’s gone.”                                                                       Beeeeee-

Don’t be scared mommy, I’m safe.
It’s pretty here, mommy.
Don’t be sad, and don’t worry.
One day, you’ll be here too.
