The Facade

August 26, 2013

I find myself lacking someone's embrace

Yet all you see is a smiling face,

A facade cleverly developed by those alone,

Those who do not want loneliness shown.

A mechanism created from my insecurity,

Questions linger of my diversity,

And how it hinders my ability to find a partner

Someone to endear, hold, and harbor

From the world's afflictions.

I wonder if my fault lie in my decisions

Or in my appearance

Yet I am left petty perseverance.

Left with a false hope,

The same excuse the world gives to cope,

that 'one day' I'll find someone to covet.

Words given with no merit.

Words that ring hollow.

Moving forward scarred and wounded,

Life seems dull as if I'm blinded

by a light I have stared at for too long

a mesmerizing flame dancing to a song

Once bright, now a sliver of what was.

This is my defense mechanism,

a clever facade developed because I am alone.
