Epiphany
I’ve realized in this world
This amazing, confusing, energetic,
Fuck you over, what the hell is going on
World
I don’t want to be left with what if
Will I say this at 40 with the taste of bullshit on my lips
Swallowing my pride leaving me with acid reflex
Constant weight and pressure causes constant rotator cuff surgery
Living on coffee always in a hurry
Because I can’t manage time
Or what if I don’t even see 40
Even 30
Beaten dirty
Fighting fair is failure
So I grab the Louisville slugger
Knock the daylights out of her like the end of the summer
Except I didn’t finish the job
She was waiting outside
Walked off my front steps
While the tinted windows slipped between the ride
Bad vibes and the car both crept
Dont have to mention what she would do
And that’s why I died at 22
What if I made it off my raps and poems
Supposed to graduate at 17
I’ll be 20
Told em
I would make it here
Holding the golden phonograph
While my mommas dropping joyful tears
Retrospect to my youthful years
Staying up late to write
Chicken with its head cut off looking for open mics
Quickly life had me on my toes like mike
In high school we all wanted to be famous right
At least in this suburban high school
All my homies would graduate from the hard Knox taking classes at night
Hustling to get their masters
Most would only go as far as the block stretches
Only would leave here on body bags and stretchers
The other ones dreams of Harvard would leave on stretchers
I heard the grey is much richer
Why are we color blind living in a black and white picture
When I speak I want every word to hit ya
I’ve realized in this world
The world that never showed me love
Just hate to make me stronger
Constant forks in the road I grab them
To devour everything on my plate
Another one so be it I’ll grab both
Make the world shake
I want to end this poem like I want my life to end
Strong
Elders tell me I shouldn’t stress this
Before that mentioned life is opposite of long
I’m not 40
30
Or 20
I’m 17
All I have is this dream
Balancing my road to success
I’m left with the taste of perseverance
Although it’s bitter sweet
