Stable Table, Empty Chair

May 3, 2013

Two people in an empty room.

Not a shelf, nor a window, nor a door, nor a broom.

Just a layer of dust,

Where some come to face their doom.

They knew that it would happen

And have very different views.

They stand alone, all alone,

Among a cheer of 'boo''s.

Delirious, yet curious,

One step closer, one steps back.

She knows she should be furious,

But it's the one emotion that she lacks.

He doesn't want to be there.

He never should have come.

He was never there before;

Never there for anyone.

Her eyes: alert

His eyes: vacant and dead

Her stance: defensive

Him: he hangs his head

He could loom far above her,

She could loom far below.

If not for a decision

Made fifteen years ago.

Two people in an empty room,

Emptier than before

There's nothing left for either of them,

But there'll never be a door.
