Robins in the Trees

December 7, 2015

Life is like a race you’ll never finish

or a fire that fights before it’s extinguished

With sweets and treats to keep you moving

Though the sours never seem to stop grueling

Until you’ve reached your point of drooling

Your desperation will only ever grow

While your legs only tire down the slopes

Your flames work hard to keep you smoking

But your engine expresses only spits and croakings

Until the night embraces you to relieve the choking

Yet you wake each day under the sun

Where for a brief moment its smiles hung

And then the shadows reach out to you

And you continue on your hopeless run

Life is indeed a questionable one

You’ll never understand its mocks and puns

But it does offer one humorous kind of blues

Sometimes you’ll win

But always you’ll lose
