Thunderstorms

September 11, 2019

Lightning breaks through the clouds

much like happiness can break through the darkness of one’s heart

It comes suddenly, sometimes painfully and surprisingly all at once

Much like torrential rains, the tears can come suddenly and sometimes for no reason at all

It’s hard to be quiet when at times, you’re in so much emotional pain that your cries sound like warning sirens, telling you to get to higher ground before the flood consumes you

And then, it stops.

Slowly but surely you start to feel ok again, like sunlight breaking through the clouds and forming a rainbow in the distance

You realize you can face the world again, no longer lost in your thoughts

As quickly as it came, the darkness - even for a minute - is gone again

And you’re no longer trapped within yourself
