I Remember

December 19, 2017

I remember that day

I had heard it many times that day,

Someone else had lost time.

Who? I wondered.

As if it was a broken record, frantically reaching for an answer in my mind.

Who could it be?

Who? Why? Who? Why? Who?

Not being able to stand the broken record in my mind,

I began searching for the answer,

attempting to silence my thoughts.

While searching, I stumbled across half of my answer.

Half of his beautiful face

placed perfectly in a black and white photograph.

My heart stopped.

I know him. No, I don't. Yes, I do. No, I don't.

The record became louder than before.

I searched frantically, even more.

I must see the other half of his face.

It couldn't be him.

With my heart racing and tears not ready yet to come,

there he was.

Full face, in all of its glory.

His story

now lost time.

I just stood there. In Silence.

My best friend sitting right beside me,

going on as if the world was still spinning,

while I had forgotten how to breathe.

How do people live? I thought.

I must have forgot.

How do you move about when you're living with a fatal thought?
