The Universe

July 4, 2013

In the darkness of the night were the moon throws no light

The silence of the city's breath remains unbroken

Only the Observer is awake for no rest could he take

For even the smallest break would destroy his concentration

And for success' sake he will not destroy his concentration

As he is lost in reflection

His only obsessive desire is to seek the elusive answer

Indifferent to the scornful voice of his peers' objection

His ideas are too fantastic to be anything but erratic

Yet far from sporadic are the products of his vision

And far from ecstatic is his peers' appreciation

When success comes from dedication

Always searching for the diverse secrets of the universe

Hiding like a silent curse upon the distant horizon

The naked bulb burns ceaselessly as his mind moves tirelessly

Across the painstakingly verified numbers and equations

As the shape moves reluctantly toward the final solution

Forced by his determination

But the Universe never lacked the ability to react

Watching, always watching although it gave no token

Simply particles and energy drifting in perfect synergy

Though for all eternity its silence remained unbroken

In its incomprehensibility it comes to a decision

To discover his intention

A sigh escapes the Observer as he finds another error

“Am I moving any closer to the final solution?

Myself should I now admonish for this task I'm set to accomplish?

Is it only a foolish wish to strive for absolute perfection?

At last that foolish wish is my only motivation!

Yet it's yielding little wisdom.”

Speaking softly from the black the Universe answers back

“Relentlessly do you track the secret of my conception

Deaf to all resistance as you seek the key to existence

And some say forbearance is a long and proud tradition!

Yet I only seek deliverance from your slow dissection

What is the reason for your action?”

The Observer jumped up startled at the ghostly voice departed

That still reverberated of its own volition

“What the devil!? Who is there that has given me such a scare?

Is it some childish dare for a students' diversion?

It tell you to take care that your ridiculous action

Does not earn you retribution!”

But a silly trick of humor designed to inspire terror

Was not the mindless fervor of the Universes' intention

“I am the complexity that holds together eternity

I am the elusive harmony that is itself Creation

I am the reliability of particles in action

The subject of your concentration.”

“I must appeal to practicality; am I losing my sanity?

Is my own creativity at last sending retribution?”

He said, wishing for a doctor for there was no other answer

His own nameless terrors sprung from his imagination

Was at last a fever that was sending this reaction

There was no other explanation

The Universe couldn't relate to his bewildered state

And it did not care to wait for him to accept the situation

“The answers you wish to learn are my only pressing concern

Too long have you tried to spurn my obvious intention

I do not wish for you to learn the secret of my invention

I will not change my decision.

“So long have I been holding you together in your living

While you were only seeking to understand my action

So close you are at last to the secrets of our past

And here you are at last despite all my objection

The die have all been cast despite all my hesitation

Awaiting my reaction.”

“But how can this be real? Why would the Universe appeal

Or try to make a deal of its own volition?

We certainly cannot banter for you are particles and matter!

What sort of strange disaster could cause such a reaction?

What unfortunate error could give life and emotion

To the substance of Creation?”

“Life itself is a mystery that holds no accountability

But far from arbitrary are the reasons for my objection

Arrogant fool to even try! Did you think I would stand by

And let you try to conform me to your invention?

And let you try to submit me to your intervention?

Do not indulge your delusion!”

“What do you mean that you must intervene?

What have I seen that inspires your aversion?

Seeking for the answer is my very nature

An act of human nature unstoppable in its inception

To seek to inspire is the basis of the soul's reflection

Springing from mind and into action.

“How can you begin judging for my voluntary suffering?

My life has gone slipping away in time's illusion

My work has become my life, not just a means to survive

How can the Universe drive this fanatical retribution

When I only seek to revive the knowledge of your invention?

You inspired my intention!”

But the Universe would abide by the course it did decide

Indifferent that the Observer tried to express his own opinion

The Observer's substance was a part of the Universe

And instantly his existence was reduced to oblivion

No modicum of remorse was left to temper its decision

The Universe had retribution
