Caution: Perception Ahead

July 4, 2015

Caution:

They tell you what to think. Put it black and gold

Covering the pieces like caution tape.

Pat on the back.  They think they have it sold.

Never getting caught like date rape.

They forgot to tell you, you still have a life.

Slap of the hand, for discontentment and strife.

Their perception is a lie that tells you what to think

A false declaration with a smile and a wink.

They say that north is up, staring at a map.

You see the sky and you’re the poor sap

Who though the stars looked down

When all they’re doing is eying Cape Town.

You wear a mask of eighteen years.

Nine of dreams and nine of tears

Neither Greeks nor Romans could master your craft.

Your mask was changing as theirs just laughed.

Tongue sore and bloody from words bitten back.

Saying false words with emotions that you lack.

Like

Getting kicked out for running away

When a more fitting punishment would be making you stay.

Mirroring those around you just to make a new name.

Putting your past self to shame.

Caution:

Perceive this how you will.
