A Paltry Explanation

July 21, 2014

Poetry is difficult

Words meaning other words meaning things no one could possibly even imagine

Yet everyone guesses at

Poetry is beautiful

It takes on forms like a shifter

Changing its skin to suit one

then another

It’s serpentine in beauty and has tigerish fluidity

It accomplishes everything

Asks for nothing

An art form

A free form

Everywhere and nowhere and all things at once

Yes

Poetry is difficult

Hard to pin down

Clumsy and shy

Brash and bold

It is a life of its own

And the poet is but a conductor of its majesty

Poetry is music and rhythm

Rhyme and reason

Hatred and love

Poetry is passion

Your passion

My passion

Our passion

It’s difficult to pin down

Grasp it –

It runs

And because of that it is perfect

It is
