Like a Tree, She Grows Strong

April 12, 2019

Beneath the ground she slept

and began to grow as the heavy clouds wept.

As the days go on, she spreads her roots.

Making sure every moment she recruits

all of the nutrients she feels are necessary

to help her blossom from January to January.

Above the earth she started to rise,

the sun beaming upon her eyes,

and yet so small she still was

a bee came along “buzz buzz buzz”.

It helped her grow and grow and grow.

Not there to harm her

oh no, oh no.

Unlike the chilly breath of winter

who’s minty freshness pierced the air.

It blew her over on her side

almost pulling her up,

but those roots were buried deep and wide

in the ground they stuck.

Throughout the years, she did age,

but even still she is so young.

Yet all she’s been through won’t color the page.

Oh life! her heart’s been wrung.

One scene: black and white

such an unpleasant sight.

Oh did she weep

bc her cousin sleeps

forever now in the sky.

Oh her eyes did bawl,

for whom she can no longer call.

Her leaves did fall,

as soon as she let out a sigh.

Her branches have swayed.

Her branches have weighed.

Her branches have waved goodbye.

Although, over time she got through it,

and her leaves came back so divine.

In the wind, she danced quite a bit,

and welcomed the beautiful sunshine.

Not all the days have had rain.

Not all the days have had pain.

But when they do,

I’ll have you know,

she simply allowed them to help her grow
