If you don't learn to write your own story, someone else will write it for you

I am a traveler by nature, a writer by coincidence, and an optimist by choice.

The Baseball Star

March 8, 2015

I glance slowly around the room

filled to the lid with empty words

and minds wandering

and hearts hoping.

I pretend and I blink,

reminding myself I am one of them.

Like an orange painted red

in a sea of never-ending teacher symbols.

They speak in and out

incomprehensible. Slow.

The field is crisp beneath me

but the knowledge, the pencils

shrivel up the further I walk.

Suddenly, rapidly, without warning

I snap back.

The ball smacks my helmet

and I fall.

Spinning silently

like the leaves turning their evercoming brown.

And the voices reach crescendo.

And the minds fill the space

to claustrophobic once again.
