Just Keep Dreaming

May 1, 2017

They say that America is the land of the free.

The land of equal opportunity.

The land where hard work will result in a successful life.

And by successful I mean, wealthy.

That is what we call the (white) American Dream

Now the Black American Dream.

Is that even a thing?

As a black women I have worked harder than most will ever have to in their lifetime.

Countless hours of tears from frustration.

I can take a step forward and someone else's words take me two steps back.

Many do not believe in me

Be strong minded, independent, and persevere.

That's what growing up Black in America has taught me.

Be proud because you are golden.

That’s what my family has taught me.

“Keep your faith and I will guide you.”

That is what God said to me

Overcoming America’s roots has been my American Dream.

I come from a family where giving up does not exist.

With that being said, I would not trade my life in America for another.

You may ask why?

Because  I would not be able to tell my story of the american Dream
