Stranger

May 16, 2019

I looked in the mirror and what did I see?

I saw a stranger looking right back at me

I recognized nothing from her lips to her eyes

Or the way she tilted her head when she began to lie

I looked into her eyes to see what they told

But the ones looking back held much, but no soul

The reflection barely flickered as she began to whisper

But the secrets she told sent a shudder through my figure

The string of sentences she compiled were ripping me to shreds

Turned into not a person but a shell filled with dread

My mind was not my own as the girl tore me to pieces

Every flaw she discovered reprimanding me, truly ceaseless

And as I watched this monster staring at me

I was not sure that I would ever again be free.

She snapped and she bit at every fragment I relinquished

But I was only to ever find that part of me that had fallen to pieces

This stranger that I saw looked completely and totally fine

But I knew she had taken what had once been only mine.

The destructive thoughts she gave me were jumping in my head

But perhaps the only way to get rid of them is if we both end up dead.
