"From my Window"

January 6, 2018

   From this decrepit window

I see the clouds flash brilliance

Orange and purple and pink,

Colors so foreign to this tiny room,

Colors that make you think

   From this sorry window

I hear bright laughter and music--

The sounds of gaiety and life

A blood curdling cacophony

During a prisoner's strife

   From this lonely window

I imagine the freedom of the hills,

of having no ugly ceiling above

I imagine escape from this place

of running off with my Love

   From this deathly window

I'm given the courage to dream

and think with my pen

I'm given the gaul to sail

and daringly try again

   From my only window

I sit and think of home

Of distant memories past

I lament my heart's awful pain

Oh! How long will it last?

   From this here, life's window
