Blank Canvas

July 17, 2015

Before meeting you my body was a blank canvas.

I let you draw over it with your kisses.

Let you run your fingertips along my skin.

Every breath I took filled my lungs with flower buds.

Every breath after kept them blossoming.

The hairs on my arms turned into blades of grass,

leaning towards your touch.

Your hands running through my hair made each strand a feather,

as light as the feeling in my head.

Carnations bloomed in my heart.
Each one a symbol of your affection.

My legs turned into tree trunks,

planting myself right where you were.

A bouquet of roses occupied my brain,

leaving the sweet scent of you with me everyday.

You were the water that kept me alive.

Then you were gone,

leaving me to wilt in my sadness.

The flowers perished,

the feathers fell to the floor.

There I was,

a blank canvas once more.

This time, however,

I am strong enough to grow on my own.

This is my body, my blank canvas,

and there is a thought in my mind blooming into reality.

The thought that I will be alright,

that I will prosper into something beautiful

without you.
