Ceasefire

March 2, 2015

They say it’s like fire.
Can’t explain it ‘till you have it.
It’s as sweet as smores,
Roasting marshmallows on the open fire
More fun than the newspaper we burned, and smoked
Like grownups when we were 2 feet tall
They say it’s amazing
Like when you first get a smartphone and you’re on top of the world
They don’t tell you how hard it was,
When you’ve left the marshmallow just too long and it’s burned and bruised
They don’t tell you it hurts,
Like when you scorched your fingers on your homemade cigarette
They don’t tell you when they don’t care
When that smartphone turns dumb;
And you’ve still got a 2 year contract
They don’t tell you about the aching,
Inexplicable pain you feel
They just tell you it is fire,
Forgot to tell you the houses it tears down
Forgot to tell you the hearts it breaks
Forgot to tell you that it burns
