If you don't learn to write your own story, someone else will write it for you

7 poems·Since October 2016

And though words can harm and destroy, they can also help to heal and express, which is why I write poetry. Poetry has helped me - and is counting to help me - with mental illness. I'm an advocate for using and enjoying the arts because they can simultaneously act as a powerful tool to make connections and as a coping mechanism. I hope to make at least one person's life easier by reading something I've written, just as reading someone else's material has done for me.

Mind-scape

October 7, 2016

There's so much in my mind that I don't understand, things that I should let go, instead of burying in my head.

But I've tried to quiet my thoughts; they just scream so loudly-- move too quickly for my fingers-- and I can't catch them, sadly.

I've tried so many different things to make them all go away, but nothing's worked thus far-- my world turns blue and gray.

Like a dull, stormy day in spring, my life's paling into muted colors. I miss seeing life in soft pastels-- living my life in vibrant watercolor.
