Transfiguration
The drums, they pound,
The spirit quakes
The people dance with pagan gait
Once in night, now
The sun doth rise
And shed a light beyond the eyes!
The sun, the sun!
Its essence did man discover
It burned their food and the mind’s cover
Of ignorance, so to see
All that could be done
With the power of the sun!
Glorious discovery!
Amazing new sight!
The forest taken for their delight
The growth, the growth
A new forest grows
More orderly than before
Dig down! Deep down!
Strange rocks, much harder than the rest
No matter, fire will put them to the test
Pounding! Pounding!
The trees, like drumsticks, beat
The Earth that was once treat
As one with the trees
Now barren, like the head
Of a buzzard eating the dead
Deeper! Dig deeper!
The Earth hid so much!
There must be more for such
Demanding people.
She yielded her blood
A holder of fire! black gold
The drums, they pound.
Not a breath is heard
Not a soul is stirred
And the drums pound on into the night...
