Open Your Eyes

March 27, 2013
Forever it's been this way Times have changed but the feelings people feel toward you & I haven't changed They still see you as white & I as black They don't care that we are friends The best you'd ever see too! They don't feel the way I do when I'm with you All they see is that we aren't the same color You see his tall white frame blonde hair & blue eyes You see my short black frame a little on the heavier side with dark eyes, dark hair & dark skin You don't see the feelings we have just to be who we are You don't see the struggle we already have in ourselves without the color of our skin being a barrier You don't see his struggle with abuse because he's not what his father wants him to be You don't see my struggle to be lighter so they'd stop calling me a "Field Nigger" I so long to be considered a "House Nigger" but even then we are neither different nor the same What's wrong with the mixing of skin colors? After all to get chocolate milk you mix chocolate in its dark richness with creamy white milk! Open Your Eyes & see that we belong to one another We complete one another Where I fail he passes Where he fails I pass Together the mixing of colors can become great! Open Your Eyes We see a Rainbow of many colors Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo & Violet too! You Don't complain at seeing yellow & blue mixing to make green. Why complain when we mix and make a child with blue eyes & a mix of our skin colors Open Your Eyes Beauty is everywhere & in everything! White or Black No Matter how light or how dark Open Your Eyes Open Your Eyes & See Can You at least Try One lid at a time Then maybe you'll see what I see Now Open Your Eyes
