If you don't learn to write your own story, someone else will write it for you

435 poems·Since May 2014

I'm a Grad student now studying Biochemistry and Biophysics (not sure how I got there). I guess I've been using this site for nearly 8 years now though sometimes I went years without writing much of anything. I write what I feel and I write what I need to let go of. Sometimes I write about a dream or a nightmare I had, If I can tell the difference. I fell in love for poetry in high school and continued to write in college. I hope to publish a book someday as well (leave a comment if a poem speaks to you). P.S. My Instagram is @CottonCandyPoems

Exotic Group

May 28, 2014

Who are we? you ask, well I tell you this we aren't the popular, we aren't the athletic, we aren't the tough, and we aren't the handsome. But we are the smart, the talented, the musical, and the poetic. We join together not because we want to but because there is nowhere else to go. We are fighting and crawling from the wreck of our lives to be distracted and find a glimmer of hope like the light at the end of the tunnel. We need human contact to survive and fulfill our needs by joining groups. These groups of outcastes from the normal are left to converse among themselves. However, these groups are the epitome of genuine humanity. They have more fun then others can imagine because the popular are too busy living in fear of the effects of their actions, the athletic are too busy practicing for the next season, the tough are too busy building physical strength to mask their internal weaknesses, and the handsome are to busy caring about other people's opinions to care about their own. We are the oddballs maybe, but we live happy not consumed by the opinions of others and the impressions we make, instead we live rejoicing in our friendship with others like us. We live everyday for ourselves and make decisions based on our morals. The oppression of society will attempt to capture our free will and spirit but the strong of us break the chains of lies handed to us to bear. We spread our ideals to those who have open ears and open minds and then we pass on the happiness that follows. We are who we are and there is nothing wrong with that. We are the exotic group and that is a fact.
