Angel

December 4, 2024

If I could turn

The rain that precipitates

From your stormy eyes

Into puddles for you to jump in

God knows I would

If I could take

The swords that pierce deeply

Your aching heart

And let you run to the infirmary freely

God knows I would

If I could break

The yoke which buckles you under

And breaks your back

Leaving you bedridden, wondering,

"Will I ever get to go outside and play?"

God knows I would

But God knows, oh He knows

I can't do any of that

Which saddens my heart

To see you like this

Oh, how I hate to see you like this

Your angel wings you fly with

They try to rip, clip, and tear them

Then like a baby bird, keep you in

An imprisoning nest, making you fear

The fall from looking down, but

They'll never realize a bird could only

Be in a nest for so long before they become

A soaring eagle
