Flame on a Leash

January 1, 2022

Burn my name off this paper.

Forget me, let me scorch

Red, orange, and yellow ink

Write my obituary

Burning alive, breathing ones being

A poetic death, to be reduced to nothing...

They say burning alive is the worst way to go.

I say each individual does every day.

When we hold back:

Passion,

Rage,

Lust,

Love,

Or Fury-

Our humanity goes up in flames.

You may try to express what was once felt,

But the moment has passed -

I’m a pyromaniac

Yet my life is a flame on a leash

Ashes aren’t good kindling

Dead feelings won’t relight

Live in the moment

Or fire will show its blight
