Picking Up the Pieces

March 9, 2016
I learned today That the high you get when you fall in love The endorphins that pump hot, and heavy Through your veins That high that you associate with true love Ends after two years That explains so much. It explains why nothing ever felt the same It explains why you felt I didn't love you It explains why you gave up on me And then me on you It's the reason we fell down The Path of Our Destruction It's the reason we're so broken now Trying to give away the shattered pieces Of the hearts that at one time Only beat for each other Even while we still try to cling To the person we pledged Our entire futures to I regret not trying harder And I regret not convincing you That my love still burns just as bright Even if it's not in the same way I'm sorry for breaking your heart And my own as well I'm sorry for not picking up the pieces
