Me

January 27, 2015

Who am I?

What am I?

I am a daughter, a sister, a niece, a student.

I am a grade point average.

I am a member of the national honors society.

A participant and winner of science fairs.

I am an intern at Genzyme.

I am what I have accomplished.

I am my résumé.

I am all the blood, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights that I suffered through to achieve these things.

Do these tangible things add up to something greater than me? Of course not.

A wise person once said that you are what you do.

I disagree.

What you do is only part of what it means to be human.

What you do will never add up to more than your parts.

To give the world concrete parts of ourselves, and most importantly to fulfill our dreams.

And therein lies the key to solving this mathematical anomaly.

These parts, the parts that nobody can see are what tip the scales.

These parts are the most important.

These parts are what truly define us as individuals.

I am all these things and I am also something else.

I will change and grow everyday, but I am the person that will be my future.

It is my dreams that will be the vessel that carry me there.

The whole is indeed greater than its parts. It is for all of us.
