path

December 9, 2019

We drove to the fork in the road

We stepped out of the car and stood there

Staring at the paths ahead of us

I turned my head to look at her

I could see the fear that swelled in her eyes

I took the first step towards my path

And then she took a step towards hers

The path I walked down

And the path she walked down

Were both narrow

And bleak

And dismal

Even though she had chosen hers

And I had chosen mine

We both walked alone

Along a long grim path
