It is

August 13, 2013

Some think it’s weakness

That it tears you apart

That it can only leave you restless

When practicality wages war with the heart.

To do what must be done

Is no longer an option

Eros has never won

Because he can’t take proper action.

Better to expel it from your life

It can only drag you down

Better to save yourself the strife

Than to wear the thorny crown

Others believe that it is foolishness

A blight upon the mind

An enemy of progress

That constricts you in a bind.

Like Romeo and Juliet

Youths extinguished like a flame

Like that Montague and Capulet

You’ll wind up just the same.

Passion and lust

Is all it comes down to

A poor place to store your trust

It will plague everything that you do.

They mock it because they fear it

Not like you and me

They cannot comprehend it

I worry they’ll never see.

For what man does not understand

He tends to destroy or hate

Not realizing the castle is made of sand

Until it is too late.

We’ll do our best to help them

We’re not the only ones

To try and stop them before they condemn

The gift brought to us by the son.

For we know what it means

We’re some of the lucky few

Although we’re only in our teens

Perhaps we can show you.

So with these rhymes we’ll do our best

To convince them that they’re wrong

To show in restlessness one finds rest

And in foolishness belongs.

We don’t presume to know it all

No one ever would

We’re mere humble fisherman on the trawl

We’ll define what any who attempt it could.

It is the aching in your heart

Whenever she goes away

It’s the fluttering exciting part

In your chest when she says she’ll stay.

It gives courage to the coward

And strength to the weak

It brings sweetness to match the sour

And ceases the need to speak.

It is the part of a loved one that remains near

After they’ve drawn their last breath

The only thing more motivating than fear

And more powerful than death.

Others will deny it

Because the alternative can’t be true

Better that than to admit

They haven’t felt what I feel for you.

It was granted to us by God

As are all things on this earth

The way we’ve tried to compensate for our flaw

Since the virgin birth.

Some will want us to stop- maybe even command

Yet it’s not their word we’ll trust in but His

Because the others will never understand

But we know what love is.
