Baggage

January 23, 2014

You’ve never been around

Now, you think a few rides home

And a fight with the other woman can change things

Since the age of eight

I’ve felt like I was different from everyone else

Never been a daddy’s girl

Because I wasn’t given a chance

When I wanted you

And when I needed you to show you cared

When I needed you the most

You lied to me

And you left me

Never been the type of girl to let a boy

Come between me and my dreams

Because my dreams are the only thing I have

That I know won’t leave

Never been able to trust

Because everyone is gonna leave like you did

Never been able to accept love or be loved

Because when you cheated on my mother

You cheated me out of a father

And I will never give anyone the chance to hurt me like you did

So when anyone shows they care

I push them away

Because if you left me for that woman

If I am undeserving of my own father’s love

Then, I don’t deserve anyone’s love

And even if all of this is true

I know God will see me through

I’m going to follow my dreams

And they’re gonna come true

I’m gonna find me a man to love me

With all of his heart

Despite all of my baggage

And if the only man to do that is God right now

Then, I am totally fine with being alone

But I’m going to learn to trust

And I’m going to learn to love

So I guess I’m just trying to say Daddy

With or without you

My dreams will come true

With or without you

I’ll be just fine
