Valentine's Day
April 11, 2014
Celebration and mourning
Per romantic successes
Or shortcomings plague the
Streets, singles in
Depressive unity
Couples in showcases
Today no different
From other days yet
We glamorize it
Some of us
Commercializing a love
We cannot afford to
Lose
Others of us a love we
Cannot be afforded
To have
A day where
It becomes hard to
Focus on the mirror’s
Beauty between being
Caught up in the person
Dining across from you
Per ritualistic terms
Roses and candles
Dividing your essence
Or laying in bed crying as
This day is that of which
No one has time for you
Because you’ve been left
Reminiscing on a past
Teddy bear with a necktie
In sedan’s passenger seat
No more
The bear has
Long since past, collecting
Dust on the closet shelf
Aching to be played with
Knowing that its gifter
Is to never return to the
Bed, though a soul
Still lingers between
Bed posts
Inextricably there
Waiting to be noticed
By receivers eyes
Knowing it is
Lost
Go about this day
However you may
There is no wrong way
Love and loss are all
A mere part of
Cupid’s arrow, for some
It brushes by, leaving love’s
Desire, for others it pierces
Through hearts as their
Demise
Today
A day of no middle ground
