Broken Mirror

April 16, 2014
I know you have all seen me before.
Am I not a familiar face?
I'm sure you remember me from when you scored the winning goal for your soccer team a few years ago.
Or from when you managed to screw up introducing yourself to the new girl.
I know you recognize me.
You looked away from me when you cut yourself for the first time.
And you looked me in the eyes when you did it for the last.
Are you starting to remember?
I watched your eyes follow the pill they put in your drink.
You have the tendency to put yourself in risky situations.
I was there when you woke up that morning.
Do you know me now?
I am pride.
Embarrassment.
Depression.
Resilience.
Disappointment.
Fear.
I am everything you said you wanted to be.
And everything you said you'd never become.
