My Soul Flows

May 31, 2013
There were times when I wanted to pick up a knife To slit my wrists There were times I wanted to pick up a pill bottle To overdose and die There were times I wanted to pick up a gun To shoot myself dead But instead...I picked up a pencil Full of lead Elementry school was where it all began A woman whoes name I don't remember Taught me the importance of words on paper She said poetry is every emotion It can be any genre It is every feeling that flows through you I never thanked her enough The first poem I ever wrote Made absolutely no sense But she looked me in the eyes and said it was beautiful Those words stirred in my soul My heart skipped a beat or two There were times I wanted to write a suicide note And walk into the street There were times I wanted to just walk out And and leave everyone and everything behind There were times I wanted to hang myself And let them all suffer But instead...I write stories about tragedy and lost love Somedays my soul changes It goes from light to dark and back again So I let poetry flow through me It keeps my soul alive Because without poetry I am nothing And my soul stands still But with it My soul flows
