If you don't learn to write your own story, someone else will write it for you

authorwithissues has been posing as a novelist since the third grade, but recently realized that her novels have grown increasingly to be mere facsimile of free verse poetry. She is now attempting to grow into this new line of thought. Otherwise, her time is spent in the most nerdy of endeavors, such as practicing her handwriting, researching minor details within Star Wars canon and fanon, and avidly perusing fanfiction long past the point of reason. Occasionally, a particular itch strikes which defies all attempts at dissuasion until put down to paper. Such is this account some small sample of these often untimely urges.

Code of Honor

November 2, 2013

They say blood is thicker than water,
though, truly,
what is blood but water colored and clouded by sentiment?

In the face of it all,
is it not what sentiment that binds us what defines us,
rather than abstract honor expected without reason?

Blood may call for proximity,
but, then, it may not.

Is it not only through close constraint,
bound by shared experience, then love,
that we choose who to trust and live by with carefully earned wisdom?

I shall not bid love and acceptance to those who will,
in return,
bid me none but that which serves them.

I choose my heart,
the color of that which it pumps,
not those who presume to know that which they have never seen.
