Growing Up

April 21, 2013
As a child, you would always hear About how growing up was so absurd That grown-ups had worries, wants and fears That kids had it easy, responsibility unheard As a child, you would always hear How those times, were the best you could want That as soon as you started counting the years Outlooks on life, began to go gaunt As a child, you would always hear That growing up was amazing, you’re as free as a bird You make the rules and break them, restrictions disappear Growns up are powerful, the law is their word As a child, you would always hear But you never really listened It was never really dear The future held other events, easily christened As a child, you would always hear All the growns ups fraught with fear All the rules, disappear But in the end, you knew what was dear As a child, you never really heard You were much too preoccupied with everything else All the sights and sounds and lights were preferred When your eyelids grew weary, and ears tuned it out The future was out there, but you were never in doubt
