The Keepers

July 9, 2013

Deep into the twilight of night

When the wind whistles

And the crickets play their melodies

The guardians come out

The cats of the graveyard

I often ponder how death keeps on

How the spirits wander freely in this realm

Forever present as the breeze brushes the trees

So I stroll, trying to find the heart of the song from beyond

There they are… sitting, staring, waiting

The cats of the graveyard

I find them stalking, slinking

Leaping, lunging with their nightly duties

Towering headstones whisper their secrets

Bonding with these knights of the dark

Guarding those ghouls banished from morrow

The cats of the graveyard
