If you don't learn to write your own story, someone else will write it for you

6 poems·Since July 2014

I am an 18 year old college student who who has always had a strong love for both music and poetry. I am a singer as well as a spoken word poet. I currently reside in New York City more specifically in Brooklyn. I have performed some of my poetry at places such as The Nuyorican Poets Cafe and The Inspired Word presented by Mike Geffner. I am so blessed to have also been able to perform on The World Famous Apollo Theater Stage as a finalist for Urban Words NYC Teen Poetry Slam. I love the art of performing as well as expressing myself through written word. I never could have imagined years ago that I would be able to do exactly what I love and share it with so many people and now that I know it is possible I never want to stop.

Too many of us

Makin, quick fast E rash decisions

Thinkin we livin when really we just killin ourselves tryin to fit in

To their definition of

prosperity and wealth

Look around, who's really carrying the belt?

Its time we stop carin so much about materialistic things and more about what the future may bring

Will we even get to see another spring

~the worlds tryna tell us something~

But we aint listenin

We weighin it down and

Sooner or later its gon knock us off

Cuz we so stupid

We act like we dont know

~You aint suppose ta bite the hand that feed ya~

We need new leaders, better teachers

Peace and love alone cant free us

We need brains and smarts

And i aint talkin bout the kind that invent things like microsoft

Yea we been growin and showin off but we aint developin at the same rate

We done left behind our common sense and instead we bangin each other with bloody fists

Its time for us, as a people to GET A GRIP!

cant you see the world is sick and tired of our insolence

In other words sick and tired of our ISH!

Its too damn many of us

Not to be able to provoke change

A quarter a dime a penny a nickel or two

Its time for us as a people to figure out what we are going to do

Its too many of us.... Its time to make a move.
